Malaysian Nyonya Kuih - Coconut Steam Nian Gao

On each Chinese Lunar New Year, every Chinese homes in Malaysia will have stack of NIAN GAO(Chinese New Year Cake) given by families & relatives. These cakes made of Glutinous rice flour will get harden like a rock after few days. Hence, they will be further processed to make it edible. There are many ways to make them a delicacy, this is my favourite way:

First, shredded a fresh old coconut & sprinkle with salt then cut the harden Nian Gao into slices & put them on top of the coconut mixture

Put them to steam

After 10mins steaming, the Nian Gao will be soften like a sticky pudding slices, roll them to be fully coated with salted coconut

Ready to eat
